Fresh air inlet

All natural ventilation systems require an adequate fresh air inlet to function at their rated capacity. Fresh air inlets should be located as close to floor level as possible and have a free inlet area of a minimum of one-and-a-half times the throat area of the Ellflow ventilator. Ellflow manufacture a full range of fresh air inlet louvres for this purpose.

Worked Example
Refer also to the EllflowTechnical Design Guide.
1. Difference between indoor and outdoor temperature is 10�C.
2. Effective stack height is 15 metres.
3. Required exhaust rate has been determined to be 21.02m2/s (using the air change method).
4. Ridge of building is 45 metres long and the entire length is to be ventilated. Therefore, the exhaust rate per metre run is 2l.02m2/s divided by 45m = 0.467m2/s per metre run.
5. Multiply the temperature difference by the effective stack height (10�CX 15 metres= l50).Therefore, the exhaust factor is 150.
6. Using the exhaust capacity table, a factor of 150 relates to anexhaust rate of 0.467m2/s per metre run of the Ellflow 300mm throat Miniflow Ventilator. Therefore, 45 metres of Ellflow Miniflow Model MFV300 is required.
7. A suitable Ellflow fresh air inlet louvre should be selected. To determine the correct size refer to the appropriate Ellflow Louvre Performance Chart and follow the example shown on that sheet.

Recommended specification
Exhaust ventilators shall be of the Ellflow Miniflow Model ( ) [specify model number] type and shall be of the size specified on the drawing. Exhaust ventilators shall be weatherproof under all normal operating conditions.
Ventilators are to be capable of exhausting a total of ( )m2/s for the total length shown on the drawing, based on a temperature differential of ( )�C and an effective stack height of ( )m.
Exhaust ventilators shall have a minimum coefficient of discharge of 0.29 and be designed to withstand a minimum wind load of l.45kPa.
All structural framework used on the exhaust ventilator shall be sufficiently treated to limit corrosion resistance.
Exhaust ventilators shall be constructed of ( Zincalume, Galvanised Steel, Colour Steel) [select one and specify colour where necessary].
